Converse Pride Collection
Whatever your gender, orientation, identity or style, Converse believes everyone is free to be whoever they are. As supporters of equality and celebrators of freedom and youth culture, Converse are proud to present their Pride Collection for the third year running. The 2018 Converse Pride Collection – designed by LGBTQ Activist Miley Cyrus, celebrates those who advocate for a tomorrow where youth are free to be their true authentic selves. All net proceeds of the Converse Pride collection will support Minus 18 – a charity which champions Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer Youth Australia wide.
Since the Stonewall Riots of 28th June 1969, when Riot police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club in Greenwich Village in New York City, the month of June has been observed as LGBTQ Pride. The violence and malice of the police force towards the local gay community led to six days of protests outside the bar and throughout the neighbouring streets, sparking a nationwide debate which surfaced years of suppressed beliefs, judgement and discrimination. The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States. The very first Pride Parade in New York City was organised the year after in 1970 and still today there are annual Pride Parades all over the world.
This June, LGBTQ ambassador Miley Cyrus has collaborated with Converse on another Limited Edition range of sneakers and apparel featuring the signature rainbow colours of Gay Pride. The project was close to her heart as a spokesperson for gender equality and the founder of LGBTQ charity Happy Hippie – an organisation that support the mission to create and inspire positive outcomes in the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth.
All net proceeds from the 2018 Converse Pride Collection by Miley Cyrus in Australia will go to support Minus 18 and Rainbow Youth, champions for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) Youth Australia Wide. Minus18 creates safe events, resources and volunteer opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) young people. They are smashing homophobia and transphobia across Australia to create a place where LGBTI youth can be their true selves.
Stand tall and wear it proud – the Converse Pride Collection is for living a life liberated.
